Success Stories and Testimonials

Every family’s journey is different. These are a few examples of how advocacy support has helped parents feel clearer, more confident, and better supported through SEND processes.

EHCP

EHCP secured after repeated barriers

H is a 10-year-old autistic child who spent years in mainstream school with minimal support and reduced attendance. After the family learned they could submit an EHCNA themselves, an initial refusal was overturned at mediation within minutes, resulting in an EHCP and specialist assessments. Further advocacy led to compensation for missed provision, additional therapy, alternative provision, and a suitable SEN placement being secured.

“We finally felt heard. What once felt impossible suddenly became clear and achievable.” H's Parent

EHCP granted following tribunal challenge

O is a 5-year-old child with autism and PICA. Despite clear professional evidence, the local authority initially refused to issue an EHCP after assessment. Mediation was unsuccessful due to procedural failures, so tribunal papers and a formal complaint were submitted. Shortly afterwards, the local authority conceded and agreed to issue an EHCP, securing the specialist support O required.

“Having someone who understood the process made all the difference when we felt completely stuck.” O's Parent

EHCP enabled inclusion in mainstream school

A is an 8-year-old pupil who struggled from Year 1 with learning, behaviour, and school attendance. After moving schools, her needs were identified and a parental EHCNA request led to an EHCP being agreed. With 1:1 support and help during unstructured times, A is now accessing age-appropriate learning, spending most of the day in class, and thriving alongside her peers while awaiting further assessments.

“Seeing her back in the classroom and learning alongside her friends has been incredible.” A's Parent

EHCP secured for specialist provision

A 4-year-old boy with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia who requires mobility aids and attends a mainstream nursery. Following a parental EHCNA request and professional assessments, an EHCP was agreed. He is now awaiting placement at a specialist school able to meet his physical needs alongside his emerging autistic profile, ensuring appropriate provision is in place as he transitions into education.

“We now know he’ll be in a setting that truly understands and meets his needs.” Parent

DLA

DLA award increased and extended

A 4-year-old boy with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia and suspected autism. After initially securing DLA independently, his family received support with the renewal, including form completion and evidence guidance. The award was increased to High Rate Mobility and High Rate Care until just before his 12th birthday, allowing the family to retain their Motability vehicle and removing the need for further renewals for several years.

“Knowing we don’t have to face another renewal for years has lifted such a huge weight from our family.” Parent
